My name is Jeff Cash and I am a Christian missionary working in Western Uganda. I'll try to post something here each week
I thought about calling this the ramblings of a crazed missionary. That maybe more accurate than missionary journal.
Blogging is an easy format to share thoughts and pictures so feel free to check back.

It is amazing the changes that Cheryl and I have seen since we first moved to Fort Portal Uganda in October, 1995. When we arrived here there were no cell phones, internet cafes, or email. A basic phone call to the states was something like $8.00 a minute.
MAF was the first to bring email to Uganda. It was a basic system that was expensive. They would take all the e-mails and call Europe 4 times a day to upload and download messages. We had to pay for everything we received. That used to get expenses.
I remember getting a message that jammed the entire system for more than a day!
We used to check e-mail using our planet one satellite phone. The connection was slow and cost $3.48 per minute.
Now things have really changed. We have unlimited internet access for a little over $50 a month. There are internet cafes on every corner of Kampala. They have even introduced wireless hotspots.
There are not many paved roads where we live but we can get on-line.
I heard that in Tanzania a little over 10% of the population has electricity but 97% have access to cell phones. It is funny to see a Massai warrior walk out of his mud hut all dressed in his traditional carb except that he has added one thing to his outfit. These days he is likely to have a cell phone clipped next to his sword!

Jeff It took me awhile but hope you will get this note. Blogging is great and it is amazing that the internet is allowing us to correspond like this. We had a great day at Glenwood today. Travis Burnett was baptized and 9 people placed membership. Randy Harris kicked off the next quarter on spirituality.
It is exciting that you will soon have your new wheels.
We send our love and blessing to David, Ronald and all the members in Fort Portal.
We loved the pictures and the hopes for others to join you in the work there.
We really enjoyed seeing the kids latest pictures.
You remain in our prayers.

Larry, I read through your blog and enjoyed it. It is great to hear about your kids and how they are doing as they spread all over the world. We love you and your wife and appreciate all of the encouragement that you have given us over the years. It was 1989 when I was in Kenya and helped you moved to from Kisumu to Nairobi. That was when the cat attacked Diane as she tried to put it in the basket. Her hand was pretty hurt if I remember right.
I'll never forget the time that same week when you and I were traveling with one of your dogs. We were eating dinner outside at a restaraunt and you jumped up and knocked over your chair as you ran away. The dog had jumped out of the window of the Diahatsu and was still tied up so it was choking itself. Larry that was sixteen years ago!
Cheryl and moved to Uganda on October 3rd, 1995. We are about to pass our ten year mark in Fort Portal. So much of what we do has been enfluence by you and your wife. We love and appreciate you very much. It is fun to keep up with all that is going on in your life. It was really fun to have Mat with us. I do have to say that I was pretty proud the day that he did the baptisms at the Kyateraker church. It's like we had come full circle. What will be really fun is when one of my boys gets to go and visit Mat someday.
Fun thoughts.
God bless.

Hey Kristi,
How's my sis doing? Isn't this fun. Andrew said that Alan showed how to set up his blog. Then Andrew helped me. So thanks to your husband I am able to blog.
I think this is a fun way to communicate.

Bill Chambers!
That is good news to hear about Travis being baptized and all of the new members at Glenwood. You and Virginia have been so good to us. We just love you guys to death. Yesterday Ronald was joking about peaches. Apparently he had never tasted them before staying at your home. He was acting like David and it was really funny. They have wonderful memories from staying with you.
Bill, thank you for what you and Virginia do to encourage this ministry and my family.
The other day when we were riding in a different car Alex said, "Daddy this is just like Virginia's car...it has a cup holder!"
I would love to sit in your kitchen right and share a meal together. We miss you.
Give our love to Virginia
And please also pass on our warm greetings to the elders.

Steve,
On our last trip to Kampala Cheryl put in a cd and there you were. It was one from your Acapella days. You can sing. Each time I drive the bumpy road to Rwebisengo I laugh as I remember you singing the entire way with a little extra vibrato. We miss you and can't wait to see you again.
Did I tell you that they paved the road to Kampala? Of course they put in 386 temporary sand/dirt speed bumps? Soon they may actually let us drive.
Would you believe that I got my first speeding ticket in nearly ten years of driving in Uganda. I was driving the Hilux and the clutch was going out so when I made it to the top of a big hill going to Kampala I was thrilled. So as I started down the pickup got up to 90kph and a policeman with his shiny new radar gun pulled me over. He said "I pulled you over because you were speeding and I know you can pay the fine."
As he was say this a pick up loaded with people and junk ten feet high went screaming past us at a terrible speed.
They did nothing.
Then they stopped a van and as the officer walked over to it the driver sped away.
He told me that they will catch him the next time he is speeding.
I asked him if he would do the same for me. He just laughed and gave me ticket for 100,000 shillings.($55)
I told him that this looks like a speed trap. He asked what a speed trap is? I told him. The police officer said "Yes this is speed trap." At least he was honest.
So I was stopped at a speed trap and had to pay because I wouldn't pay a bribe and I didn't drive away.
Well Steve you'll have to come back and experience some more of life here in Uganda!
