Camp Saaka

We have been out working on the land getting ready for our Faith Quest Youth camp which will take place in December.
It is our plan to develop the camp so we can use it more easily for a youth camp and leadership training facility.
Jesse Kenyon's church sent a gift of $1000 to build something at Camp Saaka. We added $500 to it and Dick built this dining pavillion.

Thanks Jesse and everyone from his church.
We have plans to build three more just like this.
We would also like build six cabins this size. We can build the cabins for $5,000 each. Each would have doors, windows and a cement floor.
Our plans include a kitchen, toilets, showers, A-frame lodge, recreation area and a boat dock. We want to be able to host 300.
As you can see our plans are pretty rustic.
Recently Besisa asked if he could move to the camp and be the care-taker. Basisa is a refugee from the Congo who has been working for us at the airstrip. He would like to bring three other families along with him.
All of the families are Congolese Christians and are willing to help plant trees and take care of the place. As the leaders talked, we liked the idea but housing is a problem. If we could raise $10,000 then we could build two of the cabin buildings right away and let the families live in them for the time being. The families are struggling. We are praying about this possibility.
This is one of the congolese young women who might move out to camp.

We have grown to love our brothers and sisters from Congo. This is Besisa out at the camp.

We have been given an opportunity to purchase an Isuzu dump truck. This will help us with all the building we hope to do.
Our mechanic told us that we could sell it in Kampala for $10,000 right away and if we were patient we could get up to $16,000 for it.
We are able to keep it for $4,500!!!!

Dick told us that in the local way of building, transportation can take up to 60% of the budget. Of course that depends on how you build and what materials used. But I do know that we have spent quite a bit hauling raw materials and now we can use that money in better ways.
We recently purchased a cement mixer so we are getting set.
In addition to the camp/training center, we also need to do some work on our town church property. We need to build a retaining wall and toilets with a ceptic system. We plan to start off by meeting in a circus tent.
We will be a "church without walls!"
All of these things take money. Maybe we could get some work teams to come over and help us build some of these thing.
If you would like to come and build or help us pay for some of this just let us know. There are many ways that you can help with the ministries.
Thanks and God bless
Jeff

I am thrilled with the way that God is blessing the work in the Ft. Portal area. Your truck will be perfect. If you have packed up to 30 in/on your pickup, think how many you will be able to carry with the truck!! (It's too bad that people like blueskies and forex-hopefull take a free ride on other people's blogs to advertise themselves.)

Oh, we are so happy about Besisa's decision to move there and take care of the camp...God is faithful and weren't you & Andrew just talking about that when we were there? We'll be praying about how that works out. I miss you guys and I love you lots. Give the kids hugs and kisses from me! :)

Hey Dad!
The truck has so many uses. Dick and Ronald carried 28 men out to the land to cut a new road. We want to go around Robert's fathers land. With the truck we can get rock nearby for a little over $10 a trip. We are going to use it as we open up more of the camp property. We are even making plans to take all of the children to the game park. That will be fun.
It is an amazing deal to be able to get this truck for $4500.
The guys want to use it for the Jesus film ministry.
With the Tractor, trailer, truck and cement mixer we are going to be able to do some good work. It's exciting!

Aimee Jo,
You are right! Andrew and I were talking together about how perfect it would be to get Besisa and his family to take care of Camp Saaka.
We just met with the family where the "road" go down. They offered to sell us a twenty foot wide roadway. It is about 1/4 mile long. They want 3,000,000 Ugandan shillings for it. ($1700) We are going to meet on Tuesday and give them a much lower offer. If we can buy the road way then we avoid going onto Robert's land. We will make the road nicer with trees on each side all the way down. The men who have been working on the property have done a nice job.
Ronald and I just rode our motorcycles out there. Dick was riding his motorcycle as well. Except he had a collision with a bicycle hauling Matoke. The man on the back of Dick's motorcycle broke his toes. They were bent up and back. It was nasty. Ouch!!
Also on the way back near the Holy Cross place Ronald went straight into a ditch of mud! His motorcycle was burried up to the seat. He was fine.

Can't wait to see it first-hand someday. You'll probably have an international airport and skyrise hotel by that time.
