A Snag

"What's wrong with her legs Daddy?" Isaac asked.
"Whose legs?" I asked him.
"Mommys legs are dark. I don't like it!" he responded.

Those are called hose.
It was funny trying to explain what they were to him. He must have thought she was sick.
He reacted so strongly to Mommys charcoal grey legs.

In America women wear stockings or panty hose and it changes the color of their legs.
When I asked Cheryl why women wear panty hose she said, "I don't know.
It's fancier and in the winter can help keep your legs warm. I really don't know why women wear panty hose."
It's a tradition that "runs long" in our culture. I was told a story from years ago went some women used to paint their legs to look like they had on hose. One woman legs began to streak as she was caught in the rain after church!
Women also used to draw a line down the back of their legs to look like they were wearing panty hose.
You can learn much from a culture by examining what they wear and why.
So why do American woman wear them?

I always wore them because it would really look kind of "dorky" to wear socks with dress shoes, and dress shoes seem to feel better if you have stockings/hose on. It's kind of how I feel now when I have to wear my foot brace and I want to wear shorts or capris, and there I've got the brace showing.

I don't. That is why I am glad that I live in the Northwest. Anything goes here.

1. to keep warm
2. to get a smooth, "tan" look
Of course now we can use self-tanning lotion for this, and we can still get the streaks and lines you're talking about! What a bonus!

Hose? I hate them and the only true reason for women to wear them is to hold in there baby tummy. Linda- a tie doesn't take 20 min. of squirming and shoving to get into. Ha-ha. The NW rocks for NO hose. Yeah!!!!

News Flash...We Texan women don't wear hose either. It's pants in the winter and skirts and sandals in the summer.
