Pray for the Chownings

We have just received some sad news..
Cindy Chowning was in an accident in Benin West Africa.
Apparently she was at a village meeting and returned to her car where she was hit by a moped/motorcycle and thrown into her car. She was taken for treatment but her injuries were too severe and she passed away.

Cindy and her husband Richard used to be missionaries in Kenya. They worked in Abilene before moving to Benin West Africa as missionaries. Please pray for Richard.

I have sat here for thirty minutes not knowing what to write. Would you pray with me?

Dear Father,
My heart is full of sadness as I think of Richard Chowning,Heather and all of Cindy's family who are hurting today. Lord, wrap your arms around them and comfort them...like only you know how. Lord, it's so sad.
Lord give Murphy Crowson and his father safety as they travel to help Richard. Please be with them. May your spirit comfort them all and bring peace.
I thank you for Cindy and the life she lived. She was so hospitible and kind.
Lord I lift up to your Richard, Heather, and the rest of their family. Father I pray for their teamates and fellow workers in the Lord. Please comfort the Christians in Benin who are hurting. May your kingdom grow like never beofore in Benin.
Father, I pray that you be glorified through the life and death of this sister in Christ.
Lord, also please be with the one who was riding the motorcycle.
Thank you Lord for you love.
I pray all of this through your wonderful son Jesus ...Amen

Jeff, I know the Chownings fairly well from ACU days. Richard and Gailyn VanRheenen (as you well know) have been powerful influences for Christ through their mission and recruiting work in African and at ACU. Gailyn lost his son in a truck accident in the States just a few months ago and now this tragedy. I imagine they will need and be able to comfort each other unlike most of us can. I'm certainly thankful to know this news so quickly but am shocked and humbled to hear it. I'm with you in prayer. God bless your family.

When you believe that God is in control, there are times that you want to shake your fist in the sky and shout - "What are you doing!?" "Why did you take this wonderful woman when she was doing so much good?" It is so hard for us humans who have such limited vision to comprehend the whys that come to us. When God gave us free will he gave up a lot of control. He allows people to do things that are reckless like riding a motorcycle carelessly. There are consequences to us and others from our personal choices which God allows, even though he agonizes and suffers with us. That is necessary in order to have free will which is truely free. Satan sees the mistakes of humans with joy because he uses them as instruments to pull us away from God. He takes the "why" to make us doubt, be angery, to question the good we are doing, and to deny the love of our Heavenly Father. But just as Jesus looked upon the deeds of the people of Jerusalem and said, "Oh Jerusalem...How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks..." He looks upon us with longing and love, wanting to brush all of our pain away and pull us under his wing. There is only one place to go at times like this, and that is under the wing of God. I have prayed for the Chownings and missionaries all over the world and will continue to do so.

I am so thankful for you and Cheryl and so many others who stand together before the Giver of Life, asking, receiving, and waiting for our own completion. Cyndi was a faithful worker who has received her reward. May we all remain faithful until our reunion.
